RENAISSANCE 2001
is a project to create a global Internet Art Festival for the year 2001.
Artists who believe that art can be a positive evolutionary force
have started to build a worldwide network of
LIGHTHOMES
across the Internet.
These pages will point to a future path for art in the new electronic era,
and act as a forum in which RENAISSANCE 2001 will be developed.
New members and collaborators in every country are sought.

Where is the Internet taking us ?
What is the future path of this phenomenon ?

Rory O'Connell painted the picture below at the age of ten,
using only a computer and his father's favourite software.
For Rory, using the computer to paint is as
natural and automatic as picking up a paintbrush was for a schoolboy
named Pablo Picasso 100 years ago.
But now, Rory's work will be seen all over the world, immediately.
Do you start to see some of the thinking behind Renaissance 2001 ?

Renaissance 2001 comes in many different flavours.
It is artistically, culturally and ethnically diverse.
Our aim is not to present a single point of view.
The future will not be like that.
It will be like the Internet, full of unexpected variation.
Click on the logos below to see some of that diversity,
and to see how the originators of the project are spread across the world,
creating and discussing their different ideas about our electronic future.

GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES
was created in September 1997
in response to contemporary events
and as my contribution to
AS WORLDS COLLIDE
a collaborative international art project,
where it can now be seen in its
Virtual Reality incarnation.

The QTVR technology shows us how
paintings may become living things in
the digital age...
